Varsity baseball drops two games over the weekend

The varsity baseball lost both games against Upper Saint Clair on Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday, the team lost 7-3. Senior Liam Gutendorf said the team just lacked offense.

“We simply got out hit in that game,” Gutendorf said.

Senior Nick Santillo said the shorter fence in right field did not help the team.

“Saturday was very offensive for both teams, and the size of the field helped in USC’s favor, being shorter in right field,” Santillo said.

Friday’s game was much closer, with USC winning 2-1.

“We barely lost the game. It was great pitching by both sides. We just took too long to get our offense started,” Santillo said.

The Highlanders get back into action at 4 p.m. today against Mt. Lebanon at Wallace.

Gutendorf said in order to win in today’s game, the Highlanders have to make contact with the ball.

“We need to get more two-out hits and not give up so many errors,” he said.
