The varsity boys baseball team got back into action Tuesday for the first time in a week, losing to Hempfield, 7-4.

“We just need to make better decisions with the ball and handle it better,” senior Liam Gutendorf said.

Gutendorf went 3-4 at the plate with an RBI double. He said his plan at the plate is always the same.

“I just go up there and swing at the ball really hard,” he said. “Nothing more to it.”

Senior Jon Rauch said the field conditions played a factor as well on Tuesday.

“It isn’t an excuse, but it definitely was a factor,” Rauch said.

Rauch pitched the first three innings of the game.

“I started on the mound so I took responsibility for falling short on the pitching side.”

The Highlanders play game two in a back-to-back matchup with Hempfield today at Wallace at 4 p.m.
