The boys tennis team lost 4-0 on Tuesday to Shadyside Academy, a team that is considered among the best in the section and the defending WPIAL champions.

Junior Brandon Yokopenic said Baldwin’s players still tried their best, even against the tough competition.

“They tried their best and did not give up even though they were playing some of the best kids in the section, “ Yokopenic said.

The boys need to continue practicing more and be more confident, Yokopenic said. Another improvement to be made would be through communication.

“When we are up at the net, we need to say what we are going to do and who is going for the ball (in doubles),” junior Nate Philips said.

The boys are proud of the fight they put up against one of the tougher teams to beat.

A standout player on the team was freshman Leyton Yokopenic.

“I think Leyton Yokopenic played well because he had to play one of the best kids in the section and he played well, ” his brother said.

The boys’ next game is Thursday at home against North Hills.
