Baldwin’s inline hockey team led 3-2 over Hempfield in their first-round playoff game over the weekend but lost by forfeit because the Highlanders took too many penalties.

The team started off down 2-0, but came back to take a 3-2 lead. Scoring for Baldwin were senior Carson Gnazzo with two goals and junior Levi McCrea with one.

“We battled much adversity in this game because we were down two to nothing and had to fight much harder,” McCrea said.

But when Baldwin took its 10th penalty, the game was automatically forfeited and Hempfield was declared the winner.

“Staying disciplined is something we can work on. We take too many penalties,” McCrea said.

The loss was all the more difficult because the Highlanders had climbed their way from varsity three to the top varsity one level this season. The team faced that challenge well, McCrea said.

“I thought it was a pretty good season considering where we were placed in the top division,” he said. “I thought it was a pretty decent season. A few ups and downs but that’s all.”
