The varsity ice hockey team had a dominant 7-0 victory over Canon Mac on Thursday night.

Senior Dom Trimbur led the team with his first hat trick of the season. Senior Trevor Belak scored two goals and seniors Ryan Sulinski and Xander Aul scored as well. Senior netminder Eddie Nowicki stopped all 20 shots to get his second shutout of the season.

The Highlanders moved up into fourth place in 3A play, with an overall record of 10-5-3 with 23 points on the season.

“It feels super good,” Sulinski said. “It feels even better to get back on a winning streak and get hot right before playoffs start.”

Sulinski said Trimbur really earned his hat trick.

“He was playing really well all game and had a lot of chances,” he said.

Sophomore Tanner Plinta agreed.

“Dom had a really big impact on the game,” he said. “It made the whole team play better with his accomplishment.”

Plinta said the team will still work to improve.

“We need to improve on our communication on the ice along with our puck movement.

The Highlanders play their last home game of the season against Mt. Lebanon on Monday at 7 p.m. at Ice Castle.
