Baldwin gymnastics won their section on Friday by defeating Fox Chapel.

The team was ecstatic about the win, as they were able to maintain an undefeated record. Senior Mia Dougherty said this season has been very rewarding.

“I’m very proud of the team and how far we’ve come, especially because we haven’t been section champs since 2016,” Dougherty said.

Senior Emily Shwab agreed.

“I think that it’s a huge accomplishment, especially since we beat TJ, which is a big comeback for Baldwin. It has definitely been a rewarding season,” Shwab said.

Dougherty said everyone did well, even though it wasn’t their best meet.

“I think we can credit the win to just outworking them,” she said.

Schwab agreed.

“We have gymnasts who have been competing for years, which has always given us an advantage,” Shwab said.

Dougherty said the team performed best in vault, specifically freshman Abby Rexroad.

“Abby scored a 9.6, which is really impressive. I’m not surprised, though, since she’s been working on her routine consistently,” she said.

The team has a non-section meet against Montour on Tuesday and is looking forward to states and WPIALs.
