Music is known as the universal medicine.

One of the best things about music is its relatability. It can be enjoyable for the beat and rhythm, but it can also be enjoyable and appreciated for the meaning of the lyrics and how they can be just what listeners need to hear. Oftentimes, lyrics in a song can say things that otherwise can’t be said.

On her ninth studio album, Evermore, the lyric “There’ll be happiness after you / But there was happiness because of you,” appears in the song Happiness. This can be related to losing someone important, whether that be a family member, friend, or significant other.

Swift’s words amplify the fact that although good things could be gone, good memories did not go with them. There will continue to be happy times as life goes on. It is important to remember that coming and going is a part of life, and that’s okay.

Transitioning to a different genre, rapper Mac Miller is also known for his incredible writing.

In his song, Day One (A Song About Nothing), he states, “Never make yourself feel like nothing, to make someone else feel like something.” These lyrics are simple, but heavily effective.

Being a caring person is never a bad thing. Providing support for those you care for is even more important, but don’t stop caring about yourself in the meanwhile. It is hard when all you want to do is help, but sometimes, all it takes is just a little more time.
