Bethel Park scored in the game’s final seconds to defeat Baldwin’s ice hockey team 3-2 on Monday.

Baldwin’s goals were scored by seniors Carson Kress and Xander Aul. Senior netminder Eddie Nowicki stopped 20 of the 23 shots he faced.

The team competed well until right at the end, Aul said.

“I think we played a solid game. We can always improve and touch up on some things, but the boys seemed ready to go and we made it a close game all the way to the end,” Aul said.

Despite the occasionally fierce play, there’s no animosity between the teams, he said.

“Yeah for the most part it gets rough and chippy, but I think that’s how every game is,” Aul said. “We like to be a physical team. … A lot of boys know each other and are friends off the ice, so it is fun to play with a couple of friends.”

The Highlanders’ next game will be against North Allegheny on Monday at 9 p.m. at Baierl Ice Complex.
