The girls basketball team split two games at a holiday tournament at North Allegheny last week.

The girls won their first game by a large margin against Obama High School. Senior Morgan Altavilla credited the team’s chemistry for that win.

“None of the girls are selfish with the ball, which really helps us move up and down the court,” Altavilla said.

In addition to the girls’ impressive teamwork, Altavilla said the girls played with high intensity and were able to see a pattern of consistency in their playing.

The girls lost the second game of the tournament to North Allegheny.

“North Allegheny is currently the No. 1 ranked team in 6A. So losing by only six points shows that we did not let them intimidate us, but it also shows that we still have room for improvement,” Altavilla said.

Altavilla said everyone contributed to the team’s overall performance in the tournament, but junior Gia Schoeb stood out.

“She was our spark during the games. Her energy motivated all of us to be on our best game and reminded us to just really enjoy ourselves,” Altavilla said.

The girls’ next game is tonight against Mount Lebanon.
