Boys basketball defeats TJ

The win pushed the team’s record to 4-1. All games so far have been against teams outside of their section.

The Baldwin boys varsity basketball team took down Thomas Jefferson 74-45 on Friday, as the Highlanders won their fourth straight game.

This makes the team’s record 4-1, with all of the games still being non-section.

The Highlanders came out as the stronger team and applied more pressure.

“We played physical and moved the ball well and our press was really successful,” sophomore Nate Richards said.

The coaches have emphasized the first three minutes of the second half as a time that the Highlanders have to take advantage of.

“Our first three minutes of the third quarter was the turning point because we went on an 11-0 run, and we knew the game was ours,” Richards said.

Baldwin won by a big margin, but junior James Wesling said the first quarter was a little slow.

“We can still improve on many things, especially playing a better first half,” Wesling said.

Senior Connor Gitzen showed his ability to get rebounds and be a great paint scorer, Richards said.

“Connor Gitzen got a lot of rebounds and consistently put the ball in the basket when he got boards,” Richards said.

Baldwin plays Fox Chapel at home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“The four-straight win streak motivates us to keep it going into our game against Fox Chapel,” Richards said.
