The boys hockey team opened its season with a win on Thursday over Bethel Park, 2-1.

The game was scoreless for the first period, but senior Xander Aul scored in the second period, with an assist from senior Nelson Buys.

Soon after that, Baldwin was up two because of junior Joey Stanick’s goal, assisted by junior Nick Buys and senior Carson Kress. Bethel then got one goal, but the Highlanders held on for the win.

Junior Brady Zofcin said the Highlanders played a good game, but there is a lot to work on.

“Bethel was supposed to be an easier team, so overall we need to fix a lot of things,” Zofcin said.

Junior Ben Cramer agreed.

“We need to work on communication and breaking out of the defensive zone,” Cramer said.

TheCramer said the standout player of the game was senior goaltender Eddie Nowicki.

“He played great in goal,” Cramer said.

The next hockey game is Thursday against Upper Saint Clair at Ice Castle.
