In her first varsity game, junior Jaylin Nash hit a grand slam to help the Baldwin softball team defeat McKeesport 10-5 on Tuesday.

McKeesport took an early 2-0 lead, but Baldwin took over with six runs in the fourth inning, including four from Nash’s homer.

“The grand slam definitely riled up the crowd,” senior Olivia Los said.

Baldwin did a lot well during the game.

“We were really aggressive on the bases,” Los said.

All three of Baldwin’s pitchers, junior Brookelle Holby, freshman Anna Schumacher, and her sister, sophomore Grace Schumacher, played a key role in the win.

The team started the year with two non-section losses. Tuesday’s win shows that the Highlanders are continuing to get more confident in their abilities, Los said.

The next softball game is home against Peters Township High School on Friday.
