In a big win for the program, Baldwin’s varsity baseball team defeated Norwin, one of the top teams in the state, on Wednesday at home.

The day before, Baldwin had lost the first game of the two-game series to Norwin, 10-0. Senior first baseman Michael Sabo said the team had been unprepared and should have hit the ball better.

But on Wednesday, Baldwin bounced back in a big way with a huge 4-3 win.

“We were more eager to win and overall played better,” Sabo said.

Baldwin’s two pitchers also provided big shots of offense.

The Highlanders took the lead in the third inning, 1-0, when starting pitcher John Rauch hit a home run. Relief pitcher Carson Chapel contributed to the win with a home run during the fourth inning.

Norwin took the lead briefly, but Fletcher Hindman helped the boys regain the lead in the sixth inning with a single that knocked in two runs. In the seventh inning, Norwin did not score.

After the game, the Highlanders felt a new sense of confidence.

“We played great together, and it really helped our confidence,” senior outfielder Connor Lavalle said.
