The boys varsity basketball team played two games this weekend, defeating Canon-Mac in a decisive win on Friday and losing to Erie McDowell on Saturday.

The Highlanders turned in a convincing 64-52 win over Canon-Mac. Seniors Joey Starzynski and Connor Lavelle performed well despite injuries, impressing junior Chad Cochran.

“We were all there for each other,” Cochran said. If this success is to continue in future games, this teamwork must endure, he said.

“I think if we just handle the pressure well, if everyone contributes, then we’ll be a pretty good team,” Cochran said.

Lavelle agreed that Starzynski added a lot of offense and said the team’s overall defense was strong.

On Saturday, the boys team lost to McDowell 54-40.

“We had a lot of guys hurt, and the team didn’t shoot well,” Lavelle said.

The team fought hard with what they had left of their injured team, but things did not go their way.

“We played hard, but we still lost,” he said.
