The girls swim team defeated Canon-Mac on Wednesday night, and junior Abigail Herrle qualified for WPIALs in diving.

Junior Keegan Rohland said that in addition to Herrle’s WPIAL qualifying diving performance, the girls swam well in their meet for the victory.

“The win was rewarding because the team has been working really hard,” Rohland said. “It’s nice to have a win to see all our hard work pay off.”

“This was the first win for the girls,” Rohland said. “But for other meets we’ve come in pretty close and have had really good swims.”

Standout swimmers included Leah Revo, who won the 50 freestyle. The girls 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams also claimed victories as well as the boys 200 freestyle relay.

“There were close calls all night,” Rohland said. “We were at neck and neck most of the time.”

“We were all very excited and pumped for this meet. We felt great and had good practices earlier during the week and on the weekend,” she said.

Even with the win, the team is focusing on getting better.

“We need to keep working on turns, flip turns, and transitions in relays,” Rohland said.

While the boys team lost, senior Dylan Stokes is close to qualifying for WPIALs, Rohland said.

The swim team’s next meet will be on Thursday against Fox Chapel.
