Three Baldwin band students have qualified for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association regional competition.

The students earning a spot in the prestigious competition are seniors Alex Demko and Nick Murawski as well as junior Astrid Senko. They qualified for regionals at the district competition over the weekend.

“The process to get here is by no means an easy feat,” band teacher Marissa Virgin said.

“Students have to compose a tough piece of music and audition into honors band,”  Virgin said. “From there they automatically qualify for districts,” and then there is a competition to move on to PMEA regions.

Each district earns at least one representative to go to regionals, and Baldwin has earned three. For Murawski, heading to regionals is not a new experience.

“This is my sixth year of participation, but the second year in a row I’ve made it to the regional competition,”  Murawski said.

The regional competition is on March 28.
