The girls basketball team opened section play with an away loss to Peters Township on Thursday night.

The Highlanders were up in the second half, but they lost 45-42.

“We were up with three minutes left, but we just couldn’t stop them from scoring and couldn’t finish on the other end ourselves,” junior Abby Marzina said.

Despite the loss, Marzina and fellow juniors Meghan Dryburgh and Anna Lucarelli helped keep the team focused, junior Cassie Pantelis said. Kayla Radomsky played great defense, shutting down Peters’ top player, Pantelis said.

The Highlanders’ next game is against Canon-Mac.

“I think we need to work on finishing out games and putting teams away when we are up,” Marzina said. “If we can do that, we know we can beat any team.”
