Members of the school district’s transportation department will be boosting holiday cheer as they donate dozens of bicycles and helmets for needy children at tonight’s school board meeting.

Diane Plish, an employee in the transportation department, said department members were thrilled about this annual project.

“It is a very cool event that we all get excited for every year,” Plish said. “We love helping these kids.”

Two buses, decorated for the season, will bring the 65 bikes and helmets over to the board meeting. From there, they will be handed over to the Marines, who distribute them to needy children.

“We put lights, garland, and little ornaments on the inside of the bus,” Plish said. “We also have music playing on the inside as well.

The transportation department has been collecting donated bikes and money for the project since the beginning of October.
