Two Baldwin golfers had a big day during the WPIAL individual qualifier on Monday, earning spots in the semifinals.

Junior Connor Woods and senior Matt Fediaczko both qualified for semifinals by shooting 80 or below in the 18-hole qualifying event.

Woods and Fediaczko are two of the five qualifiers in their section. Two others were from Mount Lebanon and one was from Bethel Park.

The semi-finals will be held on Monday with a similar 18-hole competition.

“We are a team, but as individuals, it’s very important to keep a positive mindset,” Woods said. “We all have to remember it’s not the end of the world if one of us doesn’t qualify and there is always another opportunity next year,”

The team has been emphasizing a positive mindset throughout events.

“I got off to a slow start, but I got my game back together and finished strong. In the match, you don’t worry about anyone else,” Fediaczko said.

In individual matches the dynamic changes and presents its own issues for the players.

“In individuals, nerves always come into play,” Coach Steve Sinning said. “Both Connor and Matt are very experienced, so hopefully they can go out and put their best score on the board” next week in the semifinals.
