The girls softball team fell short in a difficult 2-1 loss to Hempfield on Wednesday in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs.

Some key performers were senior Addie Tagg, who hit a home run and also pitched well, as well as seniors Molly Knezevich and Chyenne Shandor, who had some hits and made great plays in the field.

Junior Cassie Carlson said Tagg’s home run was a great motivator for the team.

“Addie’s hit kept us positive and moving forward in the game,” Carlson said. “We just couldn’t close out the game.”

The Highlanders lost due to a walk-off single in the last inning.

Carlson said that even though the team lost, the girls played well and will always have the memory of earning a fifth straight section title.

“Overall, we had a really good season,” Carlson said. ”We filled our missing starter spots and we are ready for next year. We have a solid team that can definitely win big.”
