The minds behind movie scores such as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Puss in Boots have released a new album.

Mettavolution is the latest release from Mexican acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela.

This is their sixth studio album, but they’ve contributed more to the entertainment scene through helping with movie scores. In 2011, they collaborated with Hans Zimmer to write and record sessions of the score from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

The band is also experiencing greater success in the United States. Rodrigo y Gabriela appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live as part of the Mercedes Benz concert series.

This new album is like much of their past work, drawing inspiration from flamenco nuevo and rock. What makes this album unique, however, are the influences from the couple’s love of Buddhism, the history of human evolution, and the liberation of the potential of the human species.

The first single, “Terracentric,” draws on Rodrigo’s love of the cleansing powers of meditation. This theme is shown in the swirling notes and rhythmic strums that entrance the listener.

Using the medium of two acoustic guitars, the couple is able to portray powerful messages and emotion.

The album concludes with a 19-minute long version of Pink Floyd’s” Echoes,” a song that the classic rock band famously performed in ancient Pompeian amphitheatre.
