Senior Ryan Butler plays for Baldwin’s varsity boys baseball team.

The baseball team got its season off to a great start on Wednesday, defeating Central Valley High School 6-2.

Junior Nicky Dolan pitched six innings, and senior Andy Sopata came in to finish the game in relief.

“Dolan pitched for six good innings,” senior Ryan Butler said.

Juniors Noah Fischer and John Scarpino said the Highlanders had one big inning on offense to secure the win. They also credited senior Aaron Exler with making a great play at shortstop.

Butler said the team focused on defense and also on everything they had worked on in practice. It led to a straightforward win.

“We hit,” Butler said, “and we played defense really well.”

The Highlanders play Thomas Jefferson today.
