In an away scrimmage on Tuesday, the Baldwin girls softball team lost to Elizabeth Forward, 3-1.

“We were playing really well up to the last inning,” junior Cassie Carlson said. She cited a “lack of communication on the field” as an area the team will continue to work on.

Among the standouts for Baldwin were pitchers senior Addie Tagg and freshman Brookelle Holby. Senior Cheyanne Shandor hit well and freshman Maleah Pacella excelled at baserunning.

The Highlanders played nine innings in the scrimmage rather than the usual seven. In the later innings the team got some freshmen in the game, which helps build their confidence going into the regular season.

As the preseason nears an end, the Highlanders look to start the regular season strong in a non-section game against Chartiers Valley on Monday.
