Inline hockey advances to championship

The inline hockey team swept Butler this weekend in a three-game series to advance to the championship round.

The Highlanders defeated Butler in Game One 5-4 in overtime, with the game-winning goal coming from senior Andrew Golvash.

The game-winning goal from Golvash gave him a hat trick on the day. The other goals came from junior Michael O’Hanlon and senior Nathan Hobson.

“Golvash definitely brought his ‘A’ game to help us win,” senior goalie Ryan Butler said.

In the second game of the series, Baldwin won 6-5 with another two goals recorded by Golvash.

The team was down 4-0 after the first period, but battled back with the other four goals coming from O’Hanlon, junior Vinny Episcopo, Hobson, and senior Johnny Valente

“Golvash once again played a huge part in our comeback and was good offensively,” Butler said.

Also, seniors Jason Depretis and Andrew Lydon played well on the defensive end, Butler said.

Teammates also applauded Butler’s efforts in goal.

“He really got into the groove and started to shut it down later in the game,” Depretis said.

The Highlanders will play Pine-Richland in a best of three championship series this coming weekend at the Alpha Ice Complex in Harmarville.

“For the championship we need to keep playing the way we have been,” Lydon said. “I feel like no one can beat us.”
