For the first time in four years, Baldwin High School football has made the playoffs.
The last time Baldwin earned a playoff berth was in 2009. This is Coach Peter Wagner’s first year running the program.
Baldwin will be facing No. 2 seed Pittsburgh Central Catholic on Friday at Cupples Stadium on the South Side. Athletic Director Vince Sortino acknowledged that Baldwin is the underdog, but pointed out that “everyone has an opportunity to succeed. Our kids worked just as hard as their kids to get to this point,” Sortino said.
Senior football player Luke Smorey said he is ready to push his teammates as hard as he can to pull off a win on Friday.
“It’s exciting, but I know we can do better than we have and look forward,” Smorey said. “We just have to do what we do better than they do.”
Student tickets will be $5 and available in the athletic office. There will be a student fan bus to transport students to Cupples Stadium for the game.
