junior Alaina Wodarek, senior Haili Cordell, and freshman Hanna Kuchnicki placed at WPIALs.

The Baldwin gymnastics team made a strong return to WPIALs over the weekend, with three gymnasts walking away with individual medals.

In the gold division, junior Alaina Wodarek took first place for her floor routine for the second year in a row. In the silver division, senior Haili Cordell won first place overall, placing first on beam and third on bars. Also in the silver division, freshman Hanna Kuchnicki won first on vault and third overall.

Wodarek said she was excited about her back-to-back gold medal for her floor routine.

“I worked really hard all season between cheerleading and gymnastics practice,” Wodarek said. “I was really excited when I heard my name called.”

The team will be competing in states competition next week.  The team goes to states every year, but qualified for WPIALs this season for the first time in many years.

“Baldwin hasn’t made WPIALs in a long time,” Kuchnicki said. “We’re very proud that we made WPIALs.”

Cordell agreed.

“We did really well. We got our highest all around score (as a team) on Friday,” she said.

The team hopes to put on another strong performance at states for a strong finish to the season.
