Led by a hat trick from senior Andrew Golvash, the Baldwin ice hockey team clinched a playoff berth by defeating Upper St. Clair on Monday night.

The Highlanders honored six seniors on senior night by beating the section’s top team, 6-3.

Golvash was Baldwin’s top skater for the night.

“Golvash played outstanding for senior rec,” sophomore Dylan Belak said. “That’s a dream getting a hat trick on senior rec.”

The team came ready to play from the start, taking an early lead and bouncing back after USC tied it later on at 2-2.

“It was the most focused I have ever seen our team,” Belak said. “We were so prepared to play USC. We stuck to the system and were mentally prepared. This year has been pretty fun.”

The atmosphere helped provide extra momentum for Baldwin.

Their (USC) student section just left when we started to win,” Belak said.

The team will play Quaker Valley at 6:40 p.m. Thursday at Ice Castle.
