It took 10 years but it finally happened, as Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y finally released another joint album, entitled 2009, and fans will agree it was very much worth the wait.

The pair first came together to release How Fly, a very successful mixtape, only to put off another project until announcing there would be another collaboration in 2015. Nearly four years later, 2009 captures all of the organic energy they had when the two rappers were coming up in the game creating mixtapes.

The album has an overall laid back vibe with great instrumentals reminiscent of some of Wiz’s earlier works. Both rappers bring their signature styles on all of the tracks. It has incredible flow for a rap album in 2019 — meaning there is no awkward stuttering or heavy breathing on any of the songs.

Songs like “Garage Talk” and “Benz Boys” have great throwback R&B rap instrumentals helping contribute to the laid-back atmosphere the album creates. Appearances by Ty Dolla $ign and Problem add to the collection of great verses.

Hip hop fans can agree this is one of the above average collaboration albums, especially in recent history. Wiz and Curren$y have created a dynamic combination of styles both lyrically and in terms of flow on the mic, while also releasing an album that music listeners will listen to the entire way through.
