The ice hockey team picked up its first win of the young season on Monday, defeating Plum 6-4.

After two tough losses to start the year, senior captain Nathan Hobson said this victory gives the team momentum and will allow the team to start to click.

Among the scorers for the Highlanders, freshman Nelson Buys and junior James Duyla both scored in their first varsity game. Also scoring were Hobson, junior Paul Zmuda, and junior Justin Pollard, who had two.

“This game proved we have potential to have a great season even after a slow start,” Hobson said.

Hobson said senior Andrew Golvash stood out during the game because he had to drop back and play defense.

“With the addition of Duyla and Buys in the varsity lineup, this team should be able to string together some wins and make it far,” Golvash said.
