The boys soccer team opened section competition with a win on Tuesday, defeating Brashear 5-1.

Brashear scored early in the game, but sophomore Bibas Rai tied the game shortly afterward.

Rai’s goal was followed up by goals from senior Austin Sabo, senior John Ziegler, sophomore Joey Moeller, and junior Ray Thomas.

The Highlanders had not recently played Brashear, so they did not know what to expect, Thomas said.

Standout players of the game included junior Pasiphique Osward and senior Ajet Subba, who controlled most of the offensive game for the Highlanders at midfield.

“The win sets the standards for the rest of the year,” Thomas said. Baldwin is currently 2-1 overall, and 1-0 in section.

The team’s next game will be Thursday night at home against Montour.
