A new trend of two-piece dresses has arrived recently, hitting the big brands like Macy’s, David’s Bridal, Windsor, and Sherri Hill. However, the more popular the dresses become, the less the dresses look like dresses.

Essentially, most of the two-piece dresses look like a fancy top and fancy skirt. Some two-piece prom dresses actually look cohesive. But when the top part has a different color and a different design, that’s when the dress becomes more of an outfit that is just semi-formal.

Basically, the two-piece dresses have become more popular because people want to look a bit uniform while seeming original.

For instance, a prom dress on Windsor, the Eloise Mauve Floral Two Piece Dress, has a gray and purple lace halter top with a pastel pink floral maxi skirt to try to match. But it does not match at all. In fact, the lace and the floral clash. Also, the dress is not even a dress at that point because the top simply does not match and is not the same.

However, there are still two-piece dresses that are cohesive and match well.

The Style #51862 dress at Sherri Hill matches perfectly, as the top is the same baby pink color as the maxi mermaid skirt. The top has a few designs on it, and the skirt has the same designs along the waistband, so the two articles of clothing do not clash.

All two-piece dresses are fun and pretty. but not all of them are actually formal for prom, and not all two-piece dresses are actually dresses.
