Swimsuit trends lack practicality

Swimsuit trends lack practicality

When summer comes, swimsuits come out. While most suits are traditionally made of nylon, this season they’ve expanded into new materials.

The most impractical of these is velvet. While they do look cute and are specially designed to hold up against the elements, they don’t look like swimsuits. Also, velvet suits are not as comfortable when in water and that kind of defeats the whole point of having a swimsuit.

Another material being used for swimwear is called crochet, better known as yarn. Most of these suits actually look like swimsuits, unlike velvet. Another contrast is they aren’t as bad when wet compared to velvet, but still not as great as nylon.

A material more practical that’s becoming mainstream is neoprene. This material is the same one wetsuits are made of and it is usually more comfortable than traditional nylon. Besides being comfortable, the material is also waterproof, supportive, and won’t fade like a nylon suit. The only downside is these swimsuits are very expensive.

To continue, swimsuits have come up with new design details. For example, tassels are being used to enhance the design of suits. Other examples are belts and suspenders being included in suit designs. Some suits use their strings to make a suit more intricate

Overall, some of these materials and trends are cute, but not all are very practical for the average consumer.
