The boys volleyball team’s big season came to a disappointing end as the Highlanders lost 3-0 on Thursday to No. 1 North Allegheny in the second round of the WPIAL playoffs.

Senior Mike Goga reflected on the season, which had many highlights.

“It really was a great season. We exceeded many expectations,” Goga said.

Making the day even more emotional was the fact that longtime Coach Eric Falcione announced his retirement at the end of the game.

Senior Dante Parente said Falcione was the reason the team had such a strong season.

“He means everything to the team and is the reason why I play,” Parente said.

The Highlanders surprised many this year as they headed back to the playoffs for the first time in three years and reached the second round for the first time in 10 years.

“No one expected us to be good, but next thing you know we finish second in the section,” Parente said.
