After missing playoffs for the past two seasons, the Baldwin boys volleyball team got its 2018 season off to a great start by sweeping Peters Township 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Last year, Baldwin lost to Peters in both games, so it was a big deal for the Highlanders to be able to sweep their opponents in the season opener.

Baldwin also was missing two players, which shows the team’s ability to be able to come together to pull off a strong win.

“It was a good way to start the season,” junior Colton Barr said.

After winning the first set by a close margin, the team went on to defeat Peters in the next two sets by bigger margins.

“We all expected to do really well this season,” Barr said. “It was a competitive game.”

Key players who stood out included seniors Mike Goga and Ben Remlinger. Sophomore Zach Remlinger also played well as a hitter, Barr said.

Senior setter Dante Parente agreed.

“Mike Goga was for sure a huge leader last night. He had a great game,” Parente said.

Going into the season, the team was eager for a fresh start.

“The team served tougher, passed better, and had a very smooth offense,” Parente said.

Their next game is Thursday at Upper St. Clair.
