Baldwin softball continued their strong season with a huge win against Peters Township

Jack O'Brien and Jaiman White

The girls softball team lost to Ringgold 3-0 Monday in the first game of the 2018 campaign.

The Highlanders struggled offensively in the shutout as hitting was fairly scarce.

“We’ve beaten them before. We just didn’t hit well enough,” senior Taylor Dadig said.

Dadig also added that though the offense was not present in the game, the defense was a steady factor all game.

“I don’t think we had any errors and the outfield played pretty well all game,” Dadig said.

Starting the season 0-1 is not ideal, but this was a non-section game, so it will not have as much of an effect on Baldwin’s run to a fourth straight section championship.

One team that may stand in the way of the Highlanders is Mt. Lebanon, which has a strong softball program. The Highlanders are scheduled to play Lebo today.

Dadig expects this to be a decent, hard-fought game. The team also looks to regain its offensive power behind their strong defense.

“We have to work on hitting and situational bunts,” Dadig said.
