Although he is criticized by many, Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin has reached a great milestone of 600 NHL goals.

Ovechkin has been noted as the greatest goal scorer of all time, better than Hall of Famers such Mike Bossy, Bobby Hull, and Maurice Richard.

On Monday night, the Capitals played the Winnipeg Jets in Washington. The game was already going to be a good matchup, as Ovechkin was tied for the league lead in goals with 19-year-old Patrik Laine of the Jets.

Going into the match, Ovechkin was at 598 career goals. With a strong start, Ovechkin scored the first goal of the game in the first period, with a fantastic screened shot on Jets goaltender Connor Hellebucyk.

In an interview between the first and second periods, Ovechkin told reporters that he was ready to score his next goal. Ovi lived up to his word, and in the second period, he capitalized off of a rebound in front of the net to notch his 600th goal.

Ovechkin became the 20th player in NHL history to reach this milestone, and fourth fastest all time.

Ovi also has the most goals scored since the beginning of the 2005-06 season, his first in the league. The closest player behind him is Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, with 405 goals.

Scoring 600 goals is definitely an impressive achievement, but there is no sign that Ovechkin is slowing down.
