Tory Lanez surprises audience with inconsistency while leaving them not disappointed

Fans of hip hop were excited to know that rapper Tory Lanez was going to be releasing another album. This was one year ago.

While the album was delayed, Lanez promised his fans that they would not be disappointed, and brought in a lot of hype for this record. Unfortunately it does not fully live up to expectations.

Memories Don’t Die, his sophomore album, has features with big names like Future, 50 Cent, Wiz Khalifa, and NAV.

The opening track, “Memories,” is a 27-second speech from Lanez that explains what the title of the record means to him: a passing of time and getting to where he is today. Then listeners dive straight into “Old Friends X New Foes,” which is a promising, fast, lyrical travel through the lavish life that Lanez leads.

But the flow brought from “New Foes” does not stay very long, with the next track, “Shooters,” giving listeners a repetitive, slow, repeat of the song’s chorus for three minutes.

The second half of the album separates itself from the first by adding multiple features on most of the songs. On “Dance For Me,” singer NAV assists Lanez in smooth bars that Lanez’s fans expect to hear from him.All of the features show the talent Lanez has, but the solo tracks do not provide the same feelings.

“Memories Don’t Die” is very inconsistent with the hits it provides, but is still a good listen otherwise.
