Voltron: Legendary Defender has had its fifth season hyped about for months, and most fans should be pleased with the results.

The plot of this season is very interesting, but it does not pick up right after the end of season four. This may disappoint some fans who wanted scenes of the team talking to Keith about his almost suicidal sacrifice to save Voltron. While Keith is with the Blade of Marmora for the whole season, that doesn’t mean he won’t meet any new characters.

Meanwhile, the paladins of Voltron run into a lot of familiar faces in season five. While some of these reunions have been long awaited, there is one fans would have preferred never to see again. One of these new characters is a reference to the original show in the 1980s, the white lion, who has a new role in the reboot.

One of the main questions fans have been wondering about concerns how trustworthy Prince Lotor is, and some fans will be pleasantly shocked by that answer. The second question, which has been debated about since season three, known as the clone Shiro theory, gains more evidence through this season.

The animation quality has gotten better as far as flying scenes are concerned. It’s not a huge difference from last season, but enough that it adds emphasis to certain scenes, like Pidge rescuing a ship in episode one.

The only issues fans might have is that the producers have decided to stick with six- or seven-episode seasons moving forward. While everyone can understand why they made this decision — so fans can receive content faster — each season will leave fans wanting more now. Thankfully season six should come out in a month or two if the release follows the pattern of the previous gap between seasons three and four, so fans won’t have too long.
