Baldwin’s girls gymnastic team won second place in its division at the state competition on Saturday.

The team competed in the bronze division and finished just three points behind the first-place team.

Senior Hanna Kalwarski said she was very proud of her team and is happy that they came so close to winning the championship.

“I am really proud of everyone. They all had a really good meet,” Kalwarski said.

Most of the girls on the team were new to gymnastics, but had some background from cheerleading. Only two of the members were veterans of the team.

“Some of them were down on themselves because we didn’t accomplish the goal we set (of winning the championship), but they can’t get down because they did really well, especially for their first year in gymnastics,” Kalwarski said.

Sophomore Aliana Wodarek performed especially well in the individual and team scores, Kalwarski said.

“Alaina Wodarek is amazing. Her floor routine was amazing. She is really going to go places in the future,” Kalwarski said.
