The boys basketball team defeated highly ranked Canon-McMillan by a score of 55-52 on Tuesday.

This win was a huge confidence booster for the Highlanders, who were recently knocked out of the playoff race.

“We go into every game with the mentality that we are going to win,” senior Nick Fiumara said.

However, he also said this game required an increase in effort by the team overall. Junior Shane Gilbert was a great contributor to the boys’ win with three key three-point shots, Fiumara said.

After a strong start to the season, the team was hit with injuries and their record suffered. Fiumara said the upset win over Canon-Mac was a great accomplishment to have toward the end of the season.

“The atmosphere was great at the game,” Fiumara added.

The Highlanders plan to use the energy from this success in their final two games of the season, in which they will face Bethel Park and Seton LaSalle.
