The boys basketball team is in prime position to make a run at a potential playoff spot after picking up two big wins over the weekend.

The Highlanders picked up a huge section win Friday night when they traveled to Peters Township. It was a total team effort for the Highlanders in a must-win game.

“We need section wins, so it was good to get that win,” junior Shane Gilbert said. “The whole team played hard and came to compete.”

The following morning the team picked up another impressive win against West Allegheny. This continued the Highlanders’ hot streak, as they are now riding a four-game winning streak heading into the most important game of their season up to this point.

Baldwin faces Upper St. Clair at home Tuesday night, a game with huge playoff implications as they try to jump USC for fourth place in the section and get the last playoff spot.

“We’re feeling pretty good right now. Hopefully we can keep our momentum up,” Gilbert said.
