Baldwin’s new Fighting Highlander is James Garvey.

Garvey, a junior, will begin his run as mascot by donning the Highlander uniform Friday at the football game against Mt. Lebanon.

“He is extremely excited about the opportunity,” Assistant Athletic Director Brad Schulte said. “On the day of auditions he was caught practicing his cartwheels in the bathroom.”

Garvey is the cousin of former mascot Pat Sites.

“It’s a family affair,” Schulte said.

His ability as mascot will be evaluated during the football season. Then, a decision will be made to determine whether he will keep the position for basketball season.

Other students who auditioned were sophomore Alex Butelli, sophomore Dighan Kelly, senior Dave Shoemaker, and senior Zach Bernarding.
