Cheer team places fourth at states

After the cheerleading team’s first performance at states in Hershey on Friday morning, captain Kaitlyn Joyce did not believe the team would end up placing fourth in the state.

“We didn’t put out our best performance on Friday, but we came back for finals on Saturday and pulled the best routine we could,” Joyce said.

The team qualified for finals on Friday morning, and their placement put them in a good position to win fourth place in the medium varsity division on Saturday.

Joyce said although the scoring scale changed from previous years, the team still greatly improved in their performance and work ethic.

“We pumped up a lot of our difficulty in stunting and tumbling, and it’s a lot more difficult than last year,” Joyce said.

Although the team already had a bid to compete at nationals in Florida next month, this past weekend’s win was encouraging.

“For Florida and nationals, we want to have high energy and confidence, but also to have a lot of fun,” Joyce said.
