Monday marks the beginning of the annual anti-drug Red Ribbon Week.

One new event this year is that on Thursday there will be representatives from Narcotics Anonymous coming to speak with students in the auditorium. Freshmen and juniors will attend from 8 to 9 a.m., while sophomores, seniors and Steel Center students will attend from 1 to 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, there will be an adults-only program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Harrison Middle School called “Use, Abuse and Addiction: Understanding the Continuum.”

Students also are encouraged to support Red Ribbon Week by participating in various themed clothing days:

Monday: Wear red to show a commitment to staying drug free.

Tuesday: Wear college apparel to show that “staying drug free leads to a positive future.”

Wednesday: Wear a hat to school to show a commitment to putting a “cap” on drugs.

Thursday: Wear favorite team apparel to demonstrate a commitment to staying drug free as a team.

Friday: Wear purple and white to show school spirit and a commitment to staying drug free as a school.
