Baldwin senior to speak at banquet honoring Rooney

    BY EVAN HUBER
    Staff Writer

Baldwin senior Nick Gardner has been asked to speak Tuesday at a banquet at Heinz Field honoring Art Rooney II of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Gardner will speak at the Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh banquet. He will represent the agency by speaking about his personal experience having a vision disability, and how he considers it merely an obstacle toward his personal success.

Gardner plans to introduce himself to the Rooney family and several current Steelers players. He hopes to inspire the attendees with his experience of triumphing over disability to achieve success.

“I think it’s pretty neat that I’d actually get to speak in front of important figures and athletes alike at a banquet about how BVRS helped me become more vocal about my disability and how it shouldn’t be treated as badly as it is,” Gardner said.
