One might think it’s impossible to fit every comedic trope into one hour and 55 minutes, but somehow, director Ken Marino is able to accomplish this feat in his latest movie How To Be A Latin Lover.

Every cliche known to comedy from the nerdy kid to the shallow adult to the crazy, yet caring family can be found in the film. The plot follows the plight of golddigger Maximo (Eugenio Derbez) after his elderly wife leaves him for a much younger man, taking with her the lavish lifestyle he has become accustomed to.

After being forced to move in with his younger sister Sara (Salma Hayek) and his nephew Hugo (Raphael Alejandro), Maximo concocts a plan to return to his life of luxury, using Hugo as a tool to seduce older women.

Following the ever-expected heartbreak and Maximo’s redemption, he finally learns the true meaning of family.

Despite the cliche nature of the film, it is undeniably adorable and has its share of laughable moments, but comedy fans should save their money and wait for the DVD release.
