The Baldwin softball team suffered a tough 12-5 defeat to the hands of Latrobe in the WPIAL semifinals on Tuesday.

The Highlanders had defeated Latrobe in the semifinals last year.

Sophomore Adeline Tagg said the team did not play as well as against Latrobe as they have all season.

“As a whole we did not play well. We have played much better recently,” Tagg said.

Junior right fielder Isabella Rossa said that even though Tuesday’s loss cost the team a chance to be WPIAL champs, it still has been a good year.

“We won section championships for the third year in a row and have a chance to make it to states,” Rossa said.

Their trip to states will depend on whether they can earn a victory Thursday night against North Allegheny. The winner of that consolation game will earn WPIAL third place and a trip to states.

Baldwin played North Allegheny earlier this year and came out with a victory. The Highlanders will look to do the same on Thursday.
