GirlBoss fails to provide strong female role model

GirlBoss, Netflix’s newest female focused series, follows the life of Sophia, played by Britt Robertson, as she scams business owners and online shoppers.

GirlBoss is portrayed as a female-based show to relay the message of girl power. While this message is important to get across to audiences who are still skeptical of the power of females, or young girls who need encouragement and acceptance from entertainment outlets, the moral of the story is quickly lost throughout the show.

Instead of providing an appropriate role model for females to look up to, GirlBoss’s main character is a rather unlikable person.

Between partying, lying, and manipulating her victims, the main character provides no positive motivation for outside women watching.

The show follows the pattern of other TV shows and movies by adding the cliché dynamic female character pretending to be invincible to the world around her instead of capturing reality.
