Track team member Amanda Shiflet has been selected to participate in the Down Under Games in Australia this summer. Shiflet will leave for the nine-day trip on July 3.
Shiflet was invited to participate in the high jump event, but she also competes in various other track events for Baldwin.
“I was invited for the high jump event,” Shiflet said. “But I plan on taking advantage of doing some other events while I am there.”
Due to the changes in qualification for WPIALs, Shiflet has already hit her time and will be heading to WPIALs for the fourth time in her high school career.
“They changed the process for qualifying this year,” Shiflet said. “You are able to hit qualifying time at any point throughout the season and I hit mine. I’m pretty excited for that.”
Shiflet is excited to head to Australia and begin preparing and competing in the competition, where she will represent the 2017 Pennsylvania East Conference Track and Field Team.
“This is a pretty cool opportunity to represnt Pennsylvania for this event,” Shiflet said.
