Depeche Mode’s new album gets political

Eighties electro giants Depeche Mode has released its 14th studio album, which features a more serious political tone than previous records.

In the Trump/Brexit era many artists and celebrities have decided to take a turn in the political sector. The album begins with lead singer, Dave Gahan, claiming “we are not there yet,” and “we have lost control” in “Going Backwards.”

By track two Gahan talks about how we’ve “been fed truths,” and our “rights abused,” and “views refused” in “Where’s the Revolution.”

The lyrics and tone make this album feel more like it was made by someone more accustomed to politically charged music such as Muse.

Overall this seems like a nice change for the band. In a time where celebrities are sharing their political views, the members of Depeche Mode find a powerful and effective way to share theirs.
